Cancer treatments, like chemotherapy and radiation to the pelvis can also cause low estrogen and decreased vaginal lubrication.

Allergies and medications that contain antihistamines, and asthma drugs can have a drying effect on the body and cause decreased vaginal lubrication.

"When a woman feels very anxious, there is insufficient blood flow so that he suffered a drought," said Goldstein.

Treatment for vaginal dryness depends on the cause. Women who have problems with vaginal lubrication due to hormonal changes can often benefit from estrogen therapy.

In some cases, doctors recommend local treatment, such as estrogen vaginal insert. For other women, especially those who have symptoms such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness addition, oral medication or skin patch that releases estrogen through the body is a choice. In some cases, both approaches can be used together to effectively treat vaginal dryness.

"Maintenance of local estrogen that is inserted into the vagina in the form of rings, pellets, or cream to complement systemic drugs that increase levels of estrogen," says Goldstein.
